Difficulty Level: Easy
Time to Hunt: Drive-by (15 minutes tops)
Kid Friendly: Yep!

Between Hood River and The Dalles, Oregon (on Interstate 84) is a rest-stop that provides spectacular views of the Columbia River Gorge and Memaloose Island, sacred burial ground for the local Native Indians. This particular letterbox lives on the west-bound side and not easy to get to if you’re traveling eastbound (sorry).

When you pull into the rest-stop, park. Head down to the picnic area by taking the path down, just west of the restrooms (you’ll notice as you go down that there are trails that head towards the river. These little “unauthorized” trails will take you to a fenceline that provides a better view of the river. Whatever you do, DON’T GO OVER THIS FENCE!!). Find the two picnic tables that rest at the lowest point of the picnic area. Stand on the sidewalk between them and look towards the river. Off to the right, just a bit are three pines. From right to left, they tower high, higher, highest. Head to the base of the “higher” that hides the moose you seek!!
