As a general letterboxing-rule I always suggest that you bring a bag and collect trash as you hike and at the end dispose of it. It makes your trip extra-worthwhile :-)

The Little Blue Hill is right across from the Great Blue Hill (GBH) with its weather observatory and Radio antenna (WGBH). The main attraction is the view from the plateau on the very top (well-after the leaves have all dropped). If you don't seem to find the exact path that I am describing - just head upwards until you are on the top.

If you come from I 93 take the Milton exit and drive on 138 north past the gas stations on your left, past the intersection and the Dunkin Donuts on your left and the next parking lot on your left is the parking lot for Little Blue Hills.

The trail starts at the opposite side of where you entered from the street.

You may want to look at the map of the blue hills before entering the woods to identify the first leg of the trail which will lead to marker 6877.
Follow the main trail into the woods and continue it curving to the right for 5 minutes until you reach the marker 6877 and take the left side of the fork up the hill.

You will pass a large red house on to the on your right side. At marker 6830 turn left up the hill. At the stone bench enjoy the view. The bench reads: "Augustus Hemenway 1853-1931. He lived on this land. He loved these woods"

Then continue on the path (you may see a green dot marking the trail). You will have to climb over some rock outcroppings where you can not see the trail but behind the rocks the trail continues.

Proceed until the T-intersection (marker 6880) with the path marked in blue. Turn left up the blue path and after about 500 feet (or more) until you see the marker 6896, Opposite of the tree that holds the marker, you will see a quite thin path to the left leading up.

Hike up this path. It will get pretty narrow ; When the path dips down for a moment and close to several dead tree trunks head up the path to your right, up the hill and arrive at the plateau of the Little Blue Hill.

Find the highest spot of the rock plateau (there may be a pile of stones still there and remains of a tree/bush growing out of the middle of the rock). Unfortunately there is now graffitti sprayed on the stones.
Stand on the highest rock and face the Great Blue Hill antenna. Now turn 180 degrees and look at the horizon you may see a blue water tower in the exact opposite direction of the antenna (in 2014 you could still see it - in 2021 the trees are too high - you may only be able to see it in the winter). If you imagine the water tower to be at 12:00 when you look at it, then proceed now for about 15 feet in the direction of 10:00 slightly to your left. There will be a small group of young white barked trees and you will come to the end of the bolder that you were standing on. Look below and there will be a triangular rock in front of the tree group and the corner of it that points towards your feet also points towards the letterbox which is under the outcropping at your feet. Just reach in and retrieve the "LITTLE KITTY".

For a shortcut to the parking lot you may go back to the blue trail (marker 6896) and then turn LEFT. It is a pretty steep descent but a quicker way back.
