July 9, 2010 - I visited my Chief Joseph Letterbox and he is alive and well. Blackvelvetrav
Location: Chief Joseph grave site. Tucked away at the foot of Lake Wallowa is a small, unpretentious cemetery. Within the walls is buried Chief Joseph. This box is in honor of Chief Joseph. I wanted to create a stamp that reflected his sadness in the loss of his land and the betrayal that he experienced. My carving is not a traditional portrait but one that reflects his sadness. Please treat this area with great respect and reverence.
Clues: Enter the cemetery and follow the stone wall to your left. Near the end of this short wall there is a tree with many, many trunks. Chief Joseph is hidden under a pile of rock at the base of this tree.
This grave site is visited constantly so please wait until you are alone with Chief Joseph before you search for the box. There is not really a spot to log in without on lookers so returning to your car may be the best option. Please wait again if others have arrived for them to depart before returning the box to it's hiding place. This is a large box. Please, Please, Please recover completely or it will not last long in it's hiding place.
Should you note the box missing, it's contents in bad repair or if you just want to say “Hi” please contact me at Blackvelvetrav@yahoo.com. Please note that I am from Idaho and it will take me time to repair or replace this box without local intervention. Thank you & happy hunting!
