You can find this box and some spectacular views of Jefferson, NH by following these clues. It is located un US-2. If you are traveling on Highway 115, turn left (WEST) onto US-2. Once you see Six Gun City, go 3.1 miles until you see a dirt turn-out on the left hand side. If you are coming from Lancaster the turn out will be on the right hand side, 1.6 miles from Santa's Village.

After parking, look for a sign that says Jefferson Historical Museum 1000 feet and a sign that says Mt. Waumbek. Begin walking towards the museum. You are looking for a white picket fence on the left hand side of the road (approx. 500 feet). Once you spot the fence, walk towards it until you reach the stone steps to walk up to a mounument. This mounument is a memorial for all the people of Jefferson who lost their lives in war dating back to the War of Rebellion/Revolutionary War. After viewing the mounument turn around and admire the beautiful views of the mountains and the Waumbek Golf Course. To your left, you will notice an American Flag. Walk towards the flag. Just past the flag you will see a tree covered with moss and a gate with some of the fence missing. In that area you will see a tree with two trunks. The treasure is hidden behind there.

The Waumbek Golf Course is the oldest golf course in New Hampshire. It was built in 1895 and is still functional today. As you can see by the views, it is a magical place to play golf. The course was built on the property of the once famous Waumbek Hotel which was built in 1860. At one time it was considered one of the largest (able to accomodate 500 guests) and most magnificent summer hotels in the White Mountains. Part of the Waumbek Hotel history includes that it burnt down in 1928. The hotel was rebuilt and operated under many other names since then. Still, even with all the changes in ownership, it was still best known for being a place to relax and enjoy breathtaking views of the Presidential Range. In 1980 the doors closed for good. The furnishings were sold and the remaining buildings were torn down. Aside from a few cottages which are now privately owned, the magnificent golf course is all that exists today.

This box was placed by two very "Cool Red Frogs" from sunny South Florida! Enjoy the hunt!
