Porta Potties available
This trail is Wheel Chair accessible and so is the letterbox as it is about 3 feet off the trail.

One mile east of Lake of the Woods turn off on hwy 140 you will find a large turn-a-round/parking area. At the rear you will find several interpretive signs and we suggest that you read them as they give a history of this meadow.

Start your hike at the obvious place and cross the weir. During seasonal runoff this could be quite an adventure, so use your judgment.

Soon after you enter the forested part you will find a large, 15 ft high dead sentinel on the right side of the trail. At this sentinel turn back and walk 15 steps to a trailside beige/gray log on your right that has a slight curl on the trail end. Under the left-hand side about ½ way up on the log you will find the Big Meadow Elk.

If you are looking for a slightly longer hike you can start from the High Lakes Trail near Aspen Campground and head toward the large parking/turn-a-round area.
Ahh heck for a longer hike you could start at Fish Lake and pick up some of the other letterboxes along the way.

When researching our clues please be aware that when previous searchers list “ATTEMPTED” on the clue sheets it may reflect more on their abilities as finders than indicate whether the box is viable or not. We do monitor our clues and boxes pretty well and appreciate the notes written to us by those that find or attempt our letterboxes.
