Nachi Cocom Beach Club

**Removed and Retired**

This letterbox is located at the Nachi Cocom beach club on the island of Cozumel.
Since it is planted on the beach, just a short distance and up a small berm from the water, it may not survive a direct hit by hurricane.

Nachi Cocom is a 'semi-private' beach club located about 10-15 minutes by taxi from the 'Puerta Maya' and 'International' cruise ship terminals. (Cab fare was recently $15 US for a group of 4 people -each way) It is either accessed by being included with a nearby hotel stay or by paying the fee $ to access it with their own "All Inclusive" package. Fee may vary - check their site for more information. The club is open from 9am to 5pm. Note: If you arrive on a Cruise ship, they often do not adjust their time to "Island time" so check to be sure of the time on the island before you head there.

Island Marketing handles the reservations at:

The 'A.I' includes food, beverages, use of the pool and hot tub which is right next to the beach, and lounge chairs on the beach with Palapas. They currently only take up to 100 reservations a day - so it cannot get "too" overcrowded. They have water toys (jetski, banana boat, parasailing, snorkeling etc.. but they are priced extra - as almost all Cozumel resorts do the same). They also have a recently completed gift shop which was not too bad on prices as compared with shops at the port. This club is not currently offered as an 'excursion' by cruise ships. You would have to book on your own through the internet.

I have heard that you can buy a day pass for less $ without food & drink - but we did not do that or inquire about it.

Look up Nachi Cocom on the internet to learn more. Also visit chat lists at cruise websites (Cruise Critic has a lot of reviews on it, mostly 'pro', but some 'con' too) to learn more about the site from people who have visited. Although this box may not be found by many people, I could not resist planting it while there. I certainly would not travel to Cozumel just for this box but if you're in the area and are looking for a nice place to relax - that is not subject to the overwhelming crowds that some other spots are - then you might want to look into this place. And - if you go - the box will be a bonus for you. Please do your own research before deciding if this club is for you. Just because we liked it doesn't mean that everyone will. This is not an endorsement of this beach club - it is just our opinion that we liked it. It is a nice laid back place but also fun for kids too. If you are looking for a "party" beach club with lots of noise and boozing crowds or big water trampolines and ziplines - then this is not the place.

Now, onto the clue:

Go to the far end of the pool (from the pool bar) and walk down the step onto the sand.
Walk in a straight line down the beach approx 97 steps (not too short or too long - just medium steps in sand).
Look up to your right up on the berm at the tree line.
There is a 'downed' tree as shown in photo on this link:

http://www.atlasquest.com/images/gallery/08/58/86658lg.jpg

The tree is still alive and has leaves on it - it's lying/growing horizontally out of the sand toward the water - so it is not really 'down' as in 'dead'.
(You may pass by a couple dead trees on the way - look for the one that's still living - and often has a lot of foliage on it, so much so that it can look like a bush - so look for the main part of the tree trunk lying on the sand).
Walk up the berm approx 20 steps to the right side of the tree.
You will have to step into the 'native' ground cover growing on the berm - step lightly - there are some patches of sand here and there - but not a lot.
Back toward where it goes into the sand there is a little 'nook' - right in front and underneath you will find the box.
The box is tucked in there and covered with a white rock which is also covered with some sand.
Please replace as found so the box stays in place.

The box is a small 'Lock n Lock' with cammo tape on it.

Please re-hide well and use discretion. The beach club is not aware of the box (as far as I know). Usually the staff is busy serving food and drinks or hanging out by the pool bar and will not be paying attention to your location further down the beach. **As of 04/06/2010, they are also building more Palapas on the beach which extend down to and in front of the tree where the box is hidden. So, more stealth is now required to retrieve and replace the box. You can actually sit on the part of the trunk that the box is hidden under and pretend to take some pictures. Preferable method would be to take the box back to your chair and stamp in and then replace it later...unless you feel that you can get the job done at the tree. Also, the earlier you arrive at the club - the less people will be down that part of the beach. So, you'll get a better spot on the beach (although they are all nice) and you'll have an easier time getting the box.

**Some parts of this clue have been updated to better describe the location of the box**
