My sister, NancyAnne, and I went to Ireland and planted two
letterboxes, one for our mother and one for our father. Dad’s
Acoma Letterbox is hidden, as a nearby plaque reveals, where
“nothing important happened” in 1897. We thought that was
a plenty good enough reason for us to place a letterbox related
to indigenous folks and their pottery from New Mexico
in the Connemara, County Galway.
In Recess (Sraith Salach) overlooking Derryclare Lough
on the N59 find a large likeness of the Son of the Sea.
Plenty of parking. Face this large fellow and walk to the flat slab
behind and to the left. Go around the slab until you find a couple
of rocks obscuring a minor space under the slab. Behind the
smaller of two rocks will the our father’s Acoma Letterbox.
Thanks for coming!
