PLEASE BRING BUG SPRAY!

A Geocaching-Letterbox (“Letterbox Hybrid”) located down the path from Abram’s Rock in Swansea, MA. The box was placed on the 1 year anniversary of our first geocache find. Since we letterboxed before we geocached, we thought we’d place both types in one!

Park behind the Swansea Town Hall/Main Library. Enter the trail to the rear of the parking lot. You’ll pass a cemetery on your right and then you’ll pass some old yellow gates. Continue on this main path as it curves to the right ahead. Next, you’ll pass between 2 large puddingstone rock formations. The one on the left is tagged “Chico.” Keep going down this main trail (you’ll pass more puddingstone rocks on both sides) until you see an orange “A” on a tree on the right side of the trail. Take the trail just before that tree. This is the trail to Abram’s Rock.

The trail will take you around a puddingstone formation, over some rocks and roots and them you will run into Abram’s Rock. You can’t miss it!! It’s a 60 foot high puddingstone rock. Take the trail to the left before Abram’s Rock and follow it around to the other side of the rock. You will pass a flat topped rock on your right (about 3 feet high and 10 feet long). There will be a small trail to the left after this flat rock. Take that trail.

Follow this trail as it snakes through the woods. You will pass a puddingstone rock on the right and then you will walk on some steppingstones on the trail. Go left at the fork in the trail and then follow the trail across a fallen tree and then through a stone wall. Keep following the trail as it crosses through another stone wall. You will pass another puddingstone to your left and a stone wall on your right. The path continues to the left and you will hit a 3 trunked tree in the middle of the path with a large puddingstone rock formation to the left.

Leave the trail and go to the 2nd level of large rocks. There will be a fallen, rotted log to the right of a crevise in 6 foot tall rocks. There you should find our Letterbox Hybrid.

We recommend you go back the way you came since we have not had a chance to explore this trail much beyond this point. We do not know if it eventually loops around.

If you’d like to try geocaching some time, this box can be logged at geocaching.com under waypoint “GC1E2WK.” There are lots of other geocaches hidden in Swansea’s Village Park as well as the Swan Hike 2 Letterbox.

Good luck!
