From Hwy 395 at Lee Vining head up toward Yosemite. Pass by the Whoa Nellie Deli on your left and the Pooler Power Plant Road. Mark your mileage from PPPR and at 7.1 miles park in the large parking area on your right and look for the sign “Nanatak Nature Trail”. Start walking by this sign and take the left trail. You will pas one lake a two picnic tables. You will pass under a tree arch and on your left you will see a white and red rock slide area. Another lake will be on your right and at the rocky high point above this lake stop at the Nanatak interpretive sign overlooking this lake.
From this sign take 60 steps at 290 degrees to a prone giant. Go uphill to the root end and then come back on the uphill side 4 to 5 feet to a rock cairn. You will find Nathan taking a break from his hike under this cairn.
