This stamp was originally released as a Hitch Hiker is August of 2004 when we were living in Manchester, NH. It made it's way across the country to Oregon. In 2007, a friendly boxer made us aware of it's whereabouts and that it was in good shape. She was nice enough to retreive the HH and send it home from it's long journey. We are retiring it here in Ohio to be enjoyed by all.
Pettisville is a tiny historical town between Archbold and Wauseon. The Cider Mill was built in 1865 by James McFellen, who originally manufactured fabrics and woolen goods. It became a saw mill in 1908-9, and later waws bought by Edward Canfield, who operated it as a cider and cane mill for 50 years. It then became a sorghum mill and was operated by Alfred Nafziger. It dubbed Pettisville the "Sweetest place in Fulton County."
From the turnpike, take the Wauseon exit (St Rt 108, exit 34). Go South off the exit (left off the ramp) to the first stop light. Turn Right onto 20A. Take 20A to County Rd 19. Follow 19 into Pettisville. Cross the railroad tracks. Turn Left 2 streets after the tracks (Dame St). Follow Dame until you see the Historical Cider Mill on your left. Next to that you will find a small cemetary. Park in front of the Cider Mill. Follow the east side of the building about 1/3 of the back in the cemetary. You are looking for two large green sentries on either side of a stone. If you are facing the stone, the left sentry holds your prize. Please use stealth when searching as this area is busier than it looks. Please rehide well.
