Most of the uplands areas vegetation is comprised of mixed hard woods with a few small open fields. Throughout the low areas are wooded wetlands containing buttonbush and red maple. Intermittent streams are the area's sole water source. These seep from the headwaters that feed Cronin Brook located to the south. Wildlife abounds so beware of hunters during that time of year.
A local scout troop maintains a nest box trail for bluebirds and the like as well as bats.
***Once a beautiful majestic home and property now vandalized and burnt to the ground.

Take Mass pike to Exit 11 (Rt 122 Millbury/Worcester) Take right at end of ramp. After entering Grafton - You'll see Wyman Gordan Company on your left, at the main entrance to WG take a right onto Brigham Hill Rd. Take your next main right onto Deernolm which is the second road that crosses Brigham. Stay on this road as the name changes to Riverland and now you are in Millbury. Look for 2 stone pillars on your left. This is the entrance to the Martha Deering Wildlife Management area. Enter here to a small parking area. Some times of year there is a chain across the entrance so you need to park on the street and walk in.
Once Parked enter at the gate. Walk along this main road as it slightly inclinesnand at approx 1/4 mile on your left you'll start to see an old stone wall. A bit further up and you'll see wetlands on your left and a small stream on your right. As the road levels out you'll see to your left an open area. Look for the pole with the silver band and a bird and bat house on it. At the base you'll find box #1. Back on the main road continue on. When you come to the fork in the road go left. Look for an unmarked trail on your left. Go down the trail till you see an old stone wall on your left. Follow this trail as it curves left (notice the old stone fireplace chimney to your right up the hill). At the very end of the stone wall on the left have a seat and rest. Your dogs can have a drink in the stream. Box#2 will be close by you. Head back the way you came. At the main road take a left. This will bring you by the remainss of the old estate mansion. There used to be 2 stone chimney/fireplaces but 1 came down in a wind storm just the other week. Follow down between the rhododendrons and bear left. You'll see the remains of the servants quarters and garage on your right. Head straight up to the 4 way crossing and look for the tree that has an elbow. Inside this tree you'll find Box #3. At this point you've walked approx 1 mile. Go back the way you came. Stay straight at the fork and head to the triple birch to find Box #4. Now just stay on the main road and you'll be back at the parking lot in no time.
