While driving down Main Street, Princeton, I came upong a quaint little shop called "Beetz Me!"
http://www.beetzme.com/index.html

I said to myself, "self, carve up a couple of stamps with the theme of Beet."

I'm not talking about a musical beat, or "I'll beat you up" . . . I'm talking about the most interesting of vegetables -- well, at least visually!

Box#1 - Beet
Box#2 - Beet Farmer

There is no logbook "Beet" a pill bottle box, the Beet Farmer is protecting the only logbook in this series.

So, to find my Beet Stamps (and I can't imagine there being that many Beet Stamps out there), stop at the East Bound Rest Area located just west of Princeton, Illinois.

Once there head up the hill on the extreme western part of the rest area. At the top there is a social trail down the back side of the hill through the tall grass. Hmmm, a big white sign might indicate that this is a bad place to grow a beet . . . but wait, have you ever tasted one before? Perhaps there is a reason for the rather unpleasant taste, for just a few feet past this sign, past the fallen tree, is a 2 foot high stump at the fence line. Under bark and twigs you will find a Beet growing.

Now, what's a Beet without a Beet Farmer?? Quick, raise your hand if you know of any Beet Farmers!

I know of one, a main character of one of our favorite TV shows, The Office, Dwight Schrute. Who, according to Wikipedia, "lives in a nine-bedroom, one-bathroom (which is located under the porch as revealed in "Office Olympics"), farmhouse on his family's 60-acre beet farm with his cousin Mose, selling beets to local stores, restaurants and roadside beet stands."

So, there you go.

After coming back up the path after finding the Beet, stand at the Southeast corner of the cement square and walk south into the woods about 15 feet.

You will see a long metal strap with a bunch of holes in it. Under the top end of the strap, huddled next to some cement is our heroic Beet Farmer.

PLEASE NOTE: I didn't have my compass in hand when I came up with the compass directions.... I used the interstate as my guide, assuming that it runs due East-West -- so my directions are estimated.
