SEASONAL LETTERBOX AVAILABLE MAY 15th THROUGH SEPTEMBER 30TH
A beautiful place to pitch a tent, the Porcupine Mountains welcomes all backpackers to the wilderness. The backpacking permits are issued upon arrival only, with an unlimited number of permits issued. Therefore, no reservations needed! :) We allow camping anywhere in the back country as long as you have no fire and stay 1/4 mile away from trailheads, scenic areas and park buildings. If you want to have a fire, we have established 60 metal fire ring campsites along the trails for the purpose of camping and having an open fire. These sites are first come first serve and have never been all filled. To register for back country camping, stop by the Visitor Center from May 15th - October 15th and see the Rangers. While there, take in the beautiful 12 minute slide show about the park! From October 16th - May 14th stop by the Headquarters, next to the Visitor Center and see the Rangers.
To find Moonrise Over Tent, enter the park from Silver City or Wakefield, take South Boundary Road to the Headquarters / Visitor Center road and turn in on the service drive. Follow the headquarters road to the Visitor Center or Headquarters (during appropriate season, see above). See the Rangers for the Moonrise Over Tent stamp!
