Your adventure starts at a state park near Cornell Wisconsin named for a French immigrant who was instrumental in the development of the upper Chippewa River. Note there is a fee for Wisconsin state parks.

Park at the ranger station to hike the Nordic Trail. We recommend driving over to the island later to check out more of the park, but your boxing adventure leaves from the ranger station. The Nordic trail is a loop that took us about 1 and ½ hours to complete. Terrain is moderate with a number of ups and downs later in the hike.

Enter the trail at the entrance with the bench and the trail maps by it.

Have you ever noticed that animals can be called by different names? We picked a couple of our favorites for you to find.

Head East into the woods on the Nordic Trail. This trail is well marked with arrows to point your way. For your adventure, follow all of the blue arrows as you get going. You will pass four posts with a skier on them. After the fourth post, there will be a post with an arrow pointing left and a yellow sign warning of no hunting or trapping. From this post, take a bearing of 250 degrees and walk 25 steps into the woods. You will see a large tree with 6 cousins hugging it. Located within you will find the Thorny Pig. **Note that the last Boxers to find the Pig said that the posts had changed, but they were still able to back track and find it...so this isn't a specific change to the clue, but just a note that the clue may be a bit off in some way - sorry in advance and if you can be more specific about the change please let us know and we will update the clues.**

Now continue down the path until you come to a four way intersection with a bench. From the bench, take 29 steps down the trail going East. This is the trail behind the bench. Now take 7 steps to your right off of the path. Here you will find a fallen tree. The Pole Cat is hiding under a rock and some bark. Don’t let it spray you!

Return to the bench. From here head north down the trail. Continue until you come to another bench on the right side of the trail. Take 50 steps directly behind the bench. There you will see a three sistered birch tree on your right and a three sistered birch tree on your left. You will find Stripes hiding in the three sistered birch on your left.

Return to the trail and continue to head north. This trail will ultimately loop you back to the parking lot where you started. Keep an eye out for deer, turtles and ducks while on your hike.

Don’t forget the bug spray.

Enjoy the hike!
