There are two boxes of ours on this trail, the first one is called "Heart of the River".
THIS BOX IS DEDICATED TO MY PARENTS 42 WEDDING ANNIVERSARY TODAY , 6/11/08!
directions:
Park at the trail head of the Beaver Pond Trail Head off of cass road in Traverse City (address of the trail head is 850 cass road). The parking area is located on the left just before the one lane bridge going over the dam if you are heading south on Cass Road.
Starting at the trail head follow the woodchip covered path, after the first bend in the trail you will see the water through the trees on the left, continue along the trail past the first letterbox (heart of the river located on the off shoot). You will come to stairs ( about 13 of them) and a boardwalk. Enjoy the sights and sounds of Northern Michigan while you stroll the boardwalk, it is beautiful in all seasons! After the boardwalk you will come to a fork in the trail go right! More stairs and a fork in the trail again on the stairs, again stay to the right. Keep following trail and stairs, you will come to the top of a set of stairs and see large utility poles ...your heading the right way! Follow along and up and always to the right until you get to the observation platform with a bench ...WHAT A VIEW! (in the fall it is breathtaking!). After a short rest at the bench , back out to the trail with you ( dont worry its only a few more steps now!) Just past the platform you will come to a set of steps leading down...dont go down , head straight into the woods. You will run smack into a tree that splits off into 4 trunks. Here is what you seek! PLEASE RE-HIDE CAREFULLY! THERE IS NO INK PAD INSIDE OF THIS BOX, PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN.
