Difficulty: Easy but challenging*
Location: Next to the large Wal-Mart Store, on E.State St.
Elevation: Flat: handicap attainable.
Hand-Carved stamp:Bring your own stamp pad, log book, stamp, oh, and a rag or towel to sit upon.

The 19 mile Adena HocHocking Bikepath runs between Nelsonville and Athens, and has multiple starting points. What you seek is generally near the EAST 1/2 mile marker. The zero point is at the Athens City Recreation Center...and numbering begins in both directions.

This jar is hidden near the restroom building immediately east of the Wal-Mart store. The soccer fields are in the flood plane just beyond the parking lot. An Athens/Athens County map, is available for free from the Visitor’s Bureau office on East State Street in Athens.

DIRECTIONS: Take US Route 50 to Athens. Turn into the parking lot at the eastern start of the HockHocking Bikepath, near the Pepsi Plant on East State Street. This terminus is about 1 mile west of the US 50 interchange for East State Street. (It's also 1.25 West of the zero point.) Look up the "Athens Bikepath Start" LB for more exact directions.

ALTERNATIVE APPROACH: Approach from the west along the Athens bikepath, anywhere beyond Wal-Mart. The access walkway will be on your left, away from the Wal-Mart. OR, just pull into the Wal-Mart parking lot, and follow the access road directly back to the rear of Aarons. Don't turn into Wal-Mart's Main parking lot. Don't double park or leave your car for long.

FOOT DIRECTIONS: Take the bikepath from either direction until you spot the brick Rest Room bldg. Walk to the access walkway to the parking lot. Now turn your back to Wal-Mart.

You are facing a row of short trees or bushes on the side away from the soccer field. Some landscaper has planted five or six ornimental trees (only 4-5 feet high) running the length of the fence to the east.

What you seek is inside the base of the first bush, or multiple stemed tree.. (It may not be obvious from walking along the bikepath, from either side.) Use caution. This is a very visible location with foot/bike traffic at any time! *The challenge will be to casually inspect the bushes, pick the one that contains the camo jar, reach in without attracting attention, and walking a distance away to stamp in.

Please stamp and re-hide carefully. The bikepath is very busy at this end, and muggles may passby regularly from both directions.

Hike length: 0.1 miles
