Ice age trail series: Blue Wood Aster
Taylor County
Nearest city: Westboro
Terrain: fairly easy
Time: 15 to 20 minutes

The starburst flowerheads of wild asters are among the flowering pleasures of late summer. The name aster is from the Greek for star.

Park at the Mondeaux Dam Lodge you will find this lodge from Westboro which is north of Medford on Hwy 13, take county D west ~7 miles to left turn on FR 104 (Mondeaux Dr) follow through to Park Road (about 2 miles from Hwy D) There are two other parking lots one before the lodge called Lakeview Park and another beyond the lodge on Park Road both are National parks, cost of $3.00 day or $10 seasonal.

Clues:
Starting at the dam by the lodge on the Ice Age Trail, cross over the dam and walk through the Lakeview Park along the blacktop driveway to the entrance of the park. You will see the trail leading off into the woods on your right. Take up the trail through the marshy area (may be wet at times) right after the yellow trail blaze on the wooden post you will climb a hairpin curve, which is lined with rocks. Stop in the corner of the curve take a compass reading at 345* notice a dead head stump walk up hill 10 steps to the stump there you will find a flower. The trail continues on to Eastwood Campground. To get back to you vehicle turn round and follow the trail back.
