Oak Canyon Nature Center

Start at the Interpretive Center-- check out the animals, both live and stuffed, inside and pick up a trail map. Outside the Interpretive Center is the main road-- head south on it. You'll pass an amphitheater on your right and a mine on your left before you cross over a bridge. On the other side of the bridge, you'll pass a set of benches. Continue on until you see a sign on the left that says Stream Trail. Take this trail-- it veers off to the left and is lined on each side with stones.

You'll soon go over a second bridge, and just a little further down the trail, a third. After this third bridge, you'll see a set of steps going uphill. These go back to the main road. Ignore them and stick to the Stream Trail to the left. You'll go over a fourth bridge, pass under the oldest oak tree, and then come to yet another bridge. (There's another side trail to the right just before this fifth bridge, but again, ignore it.)

After this fifth bridge, there are "steps" built into the trail with railroad ties. Count the steps-- the first one is right when you step off of the bridge. Stop between steps four and five. To your right is a multi-trunked tree with a birdhouse on one of its trunks. Look in the middle of the trunks and you'll find the letterbox.

Please re-hide the box carefully, covering it with leaves and sticks, when you're done. But be careful as you do so-- there is poison oak nearby.
