Oakdale is known as the Cowboy Capital of the World and it is home to the Professional Rodeo circuit. Oakdale has its rodeo grounds on the north side of town off of Hwy 120. For people from the Bay Area who are used to seeing places like the Cow Palace, don’t look for something like that when you look for the rodeo grounds, because you won’t find it. As a matter of fact, if you blink, you’ll miss the grounds. Once in a while you’ll see some horses or cows grazing out front, but other than that, the only thing you’ll see is a sign that notifies you are at the rodeo grounds.

So this year was my first year attending the rodeo and I had a blast. I was really impressed. I know there are the critiques who are worried about the animals, but I was truly impressed about the care that was taken with the animals. So for those of you who are staying away because of your beliefs, I respect you but I hope you keep an open mind to everyone else’s choices.

On to the clue…

Before arriving at the rodeo grounds, there is a great store that is better than a Home Depot, a Lowe’s or any kind of store like that and it’s called “Tractor Supply Store.” You can park in that parking lot and check out the store, it’s the best! After you’re done, walk to the path along the south side of the rodeo grounds and make your way towards Highway 120. As you make your way up the path you will see a very large electrical tower on your left and the path makes a right hand turn and some hedges begin on the right. The path makes another turn to the left and it is at this point where your treasure is waiting. In the corner of the bushes, about 1 foot up, at the point where the path makes the final left turn…cowboy up!

Just remember, cars can see you as they are driving by and if traffic backs up from the signal light…they might be watching you! Good luck and have fun…Go the first weekend in April and you’ll make the pro rodeo circuit.
