SEASONAL LETTERBOX AVAILABLE MAY 15th THROUGH SEPTEMBER 30TH

The Midwest's finest ski slopes are found on the hills above Union Bay. A vertical drop of 641 feet, and an awesome view of Lake Superior make the "Porkies" a unique skiing destination. From mid-December through March, the Ski Area is the park. Porcupine Mountains offers a modern chalet which includes down-hill and cross country ski rental. Over 26 miles of scenic, groomed cross-country ski trails surround the hill. Along these trails three rustic 8-bunk cabins are available for rent throughout the winter by calling 800-447-2757, up to one full year in advance.

Difficutly: Easy
Distance: 50 yards uphill

To find the Porkie Skier, drive M-107 Hwy west out of Silver City, Michigan for 3 miles until you reach the ski area. Turn left onto the ski hill road. Drive up the road to the top parking lot and park. Walk to the front of the chalet and continue walking until you are directly in front of the A-Frame. Turn towards the up hill slope. Walk up the slope until you reach the first small wooded area on the central right side of the slope. You will see large rocks at the front of the wooded area. Look behind the rock on the left to find the Porkies Skier hiding! Be sure to take a moment to sit on the rock and take in the view down the open slope and over the ski chalet to Lake Superior. Imagine, this is the view the down-hill skier enjoys during the winter sports period. The summer view is equally as beautiful!
