The Sand House is between Laytonville and Garberville on Highway 101 (a fellow letterboxer has suggested that perhaps looking between Laytonville and Leggett makes The Sand House Letterbox easier to find.). The Sand House Letterbox is accessed only heading north on 101. About a mile north of Bell Springs Road you will see the sand house followed soon after by a rest stop. Proceed to the rest stop and park. Past the rest rooms is a very nice lawn with picnic tables and two buildings. Proceed to the further of those buildings. About twenty feet in front of that further building on the creek side you will see a small trail going down to the creek. Take that path, but be careful going down the hill, as it’s steep. When you get to the bottom you’ll see a large culvert to your right. On each side bordering the culvert are two stair-step walls. You will be investigating next to the wall closer to the path. On the outside of that wall at the first stair step approximately four feet along you will see a medium sized rock. Lift up the end furthest from you and underneath will be the small Sand House Letterbox.
Thanks for coming.
