This former elementary school serves as yet another testament to the amazing McMenamin brothers and their ability to restore and transform historic buildings and support and enhance the local community. If you haven’t been here before, we recommend taking some time to enjoy the diverse array of artwork and history along with the fabulous amenities including restaurants, bars, movie theater, and soaking pool. If you’re looking for a fun and unique place to stay, rent a room and enjoy a nap one of the transformed classrooms.
This little letterbox series celebrates two unique bars that can be found while wandering the halls of this historic school.
1. Honors.
At this smoke-free bar you can enjoy a fine martini accompanied by the soothing sounds of classical music. As you leave the bar, look straight ahead for a large glass-topped table where you can fid a variety of reading material about the school and other McMenamins facilities. The Honors Bar letterbox is located between the wall and the table at the bottom corner closest to the honors bar.
2. Detention.
At this smoking bar you can enjoy a glass of Hogshead whiskey or Terminator stout and a selection of cigars while sitting in the cozy atmosphere created by the small, black, potbellied wood stove. As you leave the bar turn left and head down the hall past the Cypress room and the main restaurant. Look for the little, white, schoolhouse drinking fountain just past a small hall on the right. The Detention Bar letterbox is located between the wall and the memorabilia case at the bottom corner closest to the drinking fountain.
