Update: 11/10/2013: Confirmed in place.

The following was planted as part of the Mid-MO Letterboxing Society’s 4th Annual Spring Gathering: “Letterboxing on the Hogwarts Express” May 3-4, 2008 in Binder Park in Jefferson City. This box was planted with permission from the Jefferson City Parks and Recreation Department. For more information about the park including a map, please visit: http://www.jeffcitymo.org/parks/binderpark.html.

Of all the classes that Harry Potter must take at Hogwarts Schoolof Witchcraft and Wizardry, his least favorite is Potions, taught by the strict and unforgiving Professor Snape who definitely dislikes Harry and would like nothing better to fail him in class. Can you follow the directions below to pass Professor Snaps's Potions class?

Driving Directions: From the Missouri River Bridge in Jefferson City (along Highways 63 / 54 / 50) take Hwy 50 west (toward Sedalia) about five miles and exit at Apache Flats. Go about one mile and turn right on Binder Lake Road. When the road comes to a “T,” Turn left on Rainbow Dive, pass the Campground Road on your right, cross over the bridge and turn right on Binder Lake Road. Follow Binder Lake Road north and then east until you can park near the playground at the north end of the lake.

Clue: Please note: one pace = two steps.
From kiosk near playground, walk uphill on the GREEN TRAIL. Soon after you enter the woodline, trail forks. Update: 11/10/2013. It was reported to me that the trail may forks now before entering the woods. Go right uphill. After five switchbacks on the trail, notice a “gate” of two standing trees. Stop. Six paces beyond is another similar gate. From the first gate go 315 degrees 13 paces to several downed trees. One lies at 335 degrees with its root end touching another section of trail. Look in the middle of the log and see what Professor Snape has lying in store for you.

This trail is heavily used by bicyclists, hikers and mushroom hunters so please move away from the log when stamping in so that you do not accidentally reveal the hiding location to Muggles. Be careful not to block the trail. Please replace rock in log so that an animal will not drag away the box then cover the box and rock well with leaves so it looks as natural as possible. Please contact me with a short story about your hunt and to let me know how the box is faring.
