Legends, Folklore and Native History Trail Stamps Stamps were placed for Event on May 10, 2008
Start out on the Orange trail after leaving the Pell Hill area. On the right side will be a rock wall that has tree growing up through it. The first “V” shaped tree has cluster of sharp and jagged rocks at the base. A small rock hides the opening to Batwoman’s Letterbox.
Continue on Orange Trail into the wooded area. You will pass Lean-to’s on the left that line the ridge. You will come to an intersection of trails. You will see a sign that says: “Fire Tower Trail” on a Hemlock tree. Walk straight ahead on this trail (blazed in white) until you come to a rock collection. Just in front of rocks will be a small muddy spring. (Only in the spring season) On the left side, next to a living tree and a stump of an old tree are 2 large rocks. Hidden between the two is the Native American Chief.
Walk back to the orange trail. Head down the hill, pass lean-to #29. The hill slopes and has a slight gully with leaves in it, so watch your footing. Just before you cross over the small river ahead with wooden bridge is the ruins of a Lean-to. A tree with a large oval cutout of rot hides the Native Eagle. Just behind this tree hidden by a flat rock hides the Native Eagle Letterbox.
Continue on, cross over river. The Native American Bear sits lurking at the intersection of the orange and a white trail. A pair of “V” shaped dead trees sits on right side across from this intersection. In back of tree that is marked with the orange arrow has what you are looking for. A large flat rock that touches this tree hides the box. Its hiding place sits closest to the orange trail.
Continue down the orange trail. You will pass a bunch of flat surfaced light gray rocks off in the woods. A tree with a red/white triangle sign sits in this area on the left, high in a tree. "P6" is on the sign also. Continue past the skunk cabbage. (dies back in August) On your right will be a small rock cliff/shelf. Just past this is an old 3 trunked 3 foot high stump the hides the Native American Art Collage.
Continue to follow the orange trial. On your right will be a large majestic (Oak?) tree (across from an orange marker on trail) It is approx. 30 feet off of the trail. This tree has braved many storms and seen many days. At the base of this tree in a grouping of rocks on the left side holds the Native American Brave.
Just ahead is a scary carcass of a tree. It is a nightmare with peek-a-boo holes throughout. Yet it continues to grow? Have no fear that Luna’s dream catcher will protect you from the evil spirits that lurk inside and that have attacked this old tree. At base of this tree a tree limb also trails off into the woods. The Dream catcher is hidden under some rocks, in front of the tree/same side as the trail.
As you walk along you will come to a rock wall that the orange trail passes through. Turn left towards the stream. This 4-leader tree sits close to the wall and the water. The rocks at the base of tree under the letters that once announced someone’s true love is where the Lenape turtle symbol sits.
Continue on until you come to the Wigwam (The Trailside Museum Wigwam is nearby: you will need to log this box from the nearby boxes list on Atlasquest) on your left. Just past the wigwam the white trail intersects with the orange. Follow the trail to the right, along-side of what is left of the rock wall. Cross the wooden bridge over the stream. The first big "v" shaped tree on the right of the wall. It has a large leader broken off and sitting in the "v" of another tree. Old branches, leaves and a small boulder cover the Trailside Wigwam box at the base of the tree.
Walk back to trail. Follow boardwalk and turn right to backside of sugarhouse and Trailside Museum. In front of Museum is a Hand carved example of a Lenape totem pole. Follow paved road towards hill of Pell Hill. On your right will be a grassy path that leads back to the orange trail. You will come to a clearing of downed Evergreen Trees. Is this a forest of future Native American Totem Poles? On your right where a log leads to a stump is the Lenape Mask. It is hidden between the stump and the log with an uncarved shield of its own. Beware lots of nosey squirrels in the area. Follow trail. You will have to cross over some newly fallen Evergreens.
The Orange trail heads uphill. As you climb you will come to a plateau. You will see a grassy meadow/field just past the opening in the stone wall. Two orange markers attached to the tree mark the area. A large tree just off of the trail behind the wall on the right side hides the Native American Couple in a small cave at base of tree. Continue back to trail. The trail heads uphill. You will pass Lean-to’s # 15 and # 16 which leads back to parking lot/picnic area of Pell Hill.

Please Note you will end up with 11 boxes at the end of this. The clues include the wigwam. You will need to add the wigwam find under The trailside wigwam letterbox.
