SEASONAL LETTERBOX AVAILABLE MAY THROUGH OCTOBER

Rockin' Robin is a fun find! A summer visitor to the Porkies, Robins enjoy the surroundings of our Wilderness Visitor Center.

Difficulty: Easy Distance: 1/8 mile or 3/4 mile

#1). From Silver City, take M-107 West & turn left on South Boundary Rd. Go 1/4 mile and turn onto the service drive to the Visitor Center. Continue straight until you have reached the Visitor Center parking lot and park your vehicle. Walk back to the parking lot entrance (where you just turned in from) and walk across the drive to the Nature trail. Begin walking on the Nature trail until you reach the trail intersection and signs for the "Campground trail" and the Nature trail. Stop. Turn left on the Nature trail and walk the trail to the third interpretive sign, reading each sign that you come to. The second sign is the "wolf" interpretive sign. Stop. Read about the wolf and how it makes the Porcupine Mountains it's home. Now, face the interpretive sign. Lift your left arm straight up from your side (do not lift it straight up in front of you; keep it to your side!). With your arm straight out from your side, look down the full length of your arm to where your hand is pointing. You will see a single, lone living paper birch tree. Rockin' Robin is a the base of this tree. Completeing the 1.3 mile Nature Trail is fun and informative!
#2.) From the Union Bay Campground on the North East side of the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park, walk down the campground drive to the M-107 Highway. Look across the highway and to the left. You will see the Campground hiking trail to the Visitor Center. Now, carefully go across the highway and walk to the Campground hiking trail. Taking the Visitor Center hiking trail, walk the full length of the trail toward the Visitor Center (approximately 3/4 of a mile) until you reach the intersection of the Campground trail and the Nature trail (there will be signs). Stop. Turn right onto the Nature trail and walk the trail to the third interpretive sign, reading each sign that you come to. The second sign is the "wolf" interpretive sign. Stop. Read about the wolf and how it makes the Porcupine Mountains it's home. Now, face the interpretive sign. Lift your left arm straight up from your side (do not lift it straight up in front of you; keep it to your side!). Now, with your arm straight out from your side, look down the full length of your arm to where your hand is pointing. You will see a single, lone living paper birch tree. Rockin' Robin is a the base of this tree. Completeing the 1.3 mile Nature Trail is fun and informative!
