This box is dedicated to our friend James who passed away shortly before Thanksgiving 2007. James loved bugs, especially cicadas. Cicadas are those loud chirping bugs that look a little like giant flies which sing high up in the trees during warm summer evenings. They leave their honey-colored shells attached to the tree after they molt. We were all quite creeped out by these bugs until James explained that they are harmless and let us hold them and even made the male chirp for us! He collected cicadas, examined them for a while and then set them free. James taught us everything we ever needed to know about cicadas and then some! James was especially loved by our girls E and S of JESS and is truly missed.

To find his box, drive to the end of Coliseum Ave. You will pass by Hannaford’s which is where James worked. When you see the entrance to Mines Falls, park in the lot. This is a short walk. It should less than ten minutes to get to the box.

Walk over the bridge and take a left. This trail follows the river. Just after the trail curves to the right, you will pass a trail that goes up hill and immediately come to a fork. Stay right on the purple trail. Take about 40 steps from this fork and you should see a big pine just two or three steps off of the trail to your right. About one foot to the right of this pine is a root sticking up from the end of a dead tree. Here you will find James’ cicada!
