Do you know your musical B’s?
Yes!
Beethoven, Bach… uuh
Don’t forget Brahms please!

We based this series on the above lyrics which are actually words to a song that were written to go along with Hungarian Dance No. 5, a classic by Brahms. My kids love this CD called “Beethoven’s Whig 2” which puts funny lyrics to famous symphonies. Learning about classical music can be fun. Check it out at your local library if you get a chance.

Enter Mine Falls Park from the Riverside Street entrance. Head over toward Stellos Stadium where you will see a road that will lead you to a boat launch and gatehouse. You can either drive down to the gatehouse or park up near the Stadium.

It would be helpful to print out a color copy of a map: http://www.gonashua.com/CityGovernment/Departments/ParksandRecreation/MineFallsPark/MineFallsParkTrailMap/tabid/346/Default.aspx

There is only one logbook in this series.
Also, a black ink pad is all that you need!

Make your way toward the Gatehouse. Assuming you are coming down the drive from the stadium, enter the woods via the trail on your right just after red marker R68 and before you reach the bridge. You will be following the red trail that leads you counter clockwise around the Mill Pond. Follow this path for a while noting the red trail markers along the way. You will pass the skating arena and another boat launch. When you get to trail marker 49, stop. Between you and the triple trunk tree on the right is a small outcropping of rocks. Beethoven is wedged between the cracks in the middle rock. If you pass a white birch on the left by the culvert, you have gone too far.

Continue along the red trail for a while keeping your eye out for turtles basking on logs in the river. We saw 13 turtles on one small log while planting this series. Eventually, you will reach an arched foot bridge that crosses the river. About 50 steps before this bridge is another bunch of rocks on your right. See the triangular rock covered in moss? Bach is hiding behind the back left corner.

Next, go over the bridge and take a left onto the unpaved trail. You will be crossing two wooden bridges. After crossing the second bridge, turn right onto a trail just after marker G52. Now take your first right toward the river. Stop when you reach the rocks. Brahms is behind the first big rock which has a tree growing beside it.

To get back to the gatehouse, go back to the main trail (G52), take a right and follow it along for just a short distance.

Thanks once again to Mrs. V…a true girl scout!
