Follw south airport road in Traverse City east til it ends at 3 Mile road. Turn left onto 3 mile rd, stay in the right lane, just before the next traffic light (parsons rd) there is a small dirt driveway (located right at the base of the railroad crossing lights at the intersection at Parsons rd) the drive is on the right and leads directly into a small dirt parking area, park here. This is the trail head for the Reffitt Nature Preserve pathway. There is a wooden bridge at the begining of the path that goes over Mitchell Creek (no bikes allowed), cross the bridge, there is a two trunked tree blocking the path on the other side of the bridge followed by the information sign telling you about the trail system. FolLow the trail straight ahead, to the left of you is the railroad and the paved biking trail, you will also see to the left an apartment complex light yellow in color. Keep following the trail, it will curve gently to the left almost coming together with the railroad tracks. Soon you will come to the first boardwalk (if you followed the entire trail around in the loop there is 1400 feet of boardwalk and 3 bridges), cross the boardwalk and continue along the trail (you are in a grouping of pines at this point), continue on ...you will come to a trail sign that says loop trail and you have a choice to go left or right, go left over the small boardwalk, a short walk further and there is yet another small boardwalk to cross ..your almost there! Continue on , the trail will take a pretty big curve to the left heading to a long skinny boardwalk when you get to the "bend" in the curve ...go straight off the trail, you will pass a large pine on your left...straight on you will see a Beech tree (with alot of dead branches on the ground in front of it, a old dead log and a still standing dead tree close to the left of it). Under the branches and leaves at the base of the tree you will find the box. Please remember to rehide it carefully! NO INK PAD IN BOX,PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN. The entire trail is a 1.5 mile loop bringing you back to the main trail and parking area, beautiful in all seasons and a easy walk.
