Rattlesnake box
Placed by 6JumpingBeans
Easy access off I-25
An uphill walk.
Hand Carved stamp
CLUES:
Take I-25 South from I-40 to Rio Bravo Blvd.
Go East to the next stop light, University.
Go South and start looking for the enormous snake sculpture in the median.
Park on the side of the road and cross over into the median.
Walk up the hill along the snake (our kids walked on the snake after climbing all over its head). When you get to the rattles walk directly toward the little trees in the landscape to the south. You will see three large rocks in front (to the north) of the trees, look under the small rocks surrounding the middle rock for your box!
After you find the box you can drive further south to see a matching snake just about 1 mile up the road. This road leads you to the new Albuquerque film studios as well.
I have been told that this snake is not a rattlesnake, but a representation of a Pueblo Indian snake god or possibly Quetzalcoatl, the Aztec Snake god. If you know, please drop us a line and let us know! I cannot find any info on the origin of these snakes anywhere.
