Hooper is incorrectly called "Who-per" by those unfamiliar with the name of the town. The pronunciation isn't hard. It's just like the word "hooker" — but with a "p" instead of a "k." The correct pronunciation is based on the town's namesake, Capt. William H. Hooper, Utah's first delegate to Congress, and how he said his name. A highlight in Hooper history was on Sept. 10, 1982, when President Ronald Reagan spoke at the Hooper Park. Hooper is also known for its quality tomatoes, and Hooper Tomato Days has been celebrated annually on Labor Day since 1932. From Interstate 15 take the Roy, 5600 South exit. As you continue West on 5600 S. for several miles you will be traveling through the town of Roy. Shortly after passing the intersection of 3500 W. the road naturally curves and changes from 5600 S. into 5500 S. Continue West on this road. After passing 4300 W. you are no longer in Roy and have entered the town of Hooper. The first landmark you will see is Freedom Elementary School on your left side. After continuing west a mile or two you will see Hooper Elementary School on your right side. Within the next block you will pass Hooper Park. This is the location where President Ronald Reagan dedicated the flagpole. Take the first right turn after Hooper Park. You will be turning onto 6300 West. On the East side of the road you will need to enter the one way road into the cemetery. Once you are in the cemetery take the first left road and begin to count the large pine trees. Under the 6th tree there is a bench and a large rock. The letterbox is under the rock. Be careful reaching into the hole. There may be bugs or spiders. Be discrete and re-hide the box well. Good luck!!
