UPDATE 08/16/2011 - Box 2 may be missing.
UPDATE 11/28/2014 - Box 3 alive and well.

This series takes you to some Off Road Vehicle recreation sites in the High Desert. Each is a drive-by, within 30 feet of where you park, but as the series implies, you will be driving on some dirt roads to access them. This series of three boxes are off of I-15 as you travel north through Hesperia, Victorville/Apple Valley, and Barstow. You can do the series in reverse traveling south, but you may want to take different exits to shorten the route.

Box 1. ATC
Take the Main St / Phelan Rd exit off of I-15 or CA-395 and head west. Turn left onto Los Banos Rd (first road west of Hwy 395), which immediately turns into a dirt road. Go about .4 miles to a chain-link fenced yard on your left. Turn left and follow along the path (Sultana St) just outside the fence for about .1 miles to where the street ends at an overlook of the huge motor-cross park. The box is located in the small clump of about a dozen Joshua trees 30 steps to the North. It is at the base of a dead tree in the center under 3 rocks and other plant debris. Please re-hide well.

Box 2. Dirt Bike (Tree down - Box possibly Missing)
Return to I-15 head north, and exit Bell Mountain/Stoddard Wells at exit 157 (not exit 154, which is also Stoddard Wells Road). From this point drive turn left and head northeast for about 3 miles where you will cross a RR track at Quarry Rd. Continue to the stop sign at 3.7 miles, where the road is no longer maintained, and at 4.4 miles it turns to dirt. At 5.8 miles from the freeway, turn right along the power lines for .5 miles where the road turns left (but you go right) at the start of the Grange Race Track. Go right up the dirt trail / road for about 40 yards, to a half dead Joshua tree, on your left (south) side of the road. The box is in the V of the tree about 6 feet up, covered up with dead pieces of tree. Please re-hide well.

Box 3. Buggy
Return to I-15 head north, and exit Outlet Center Drive at exit 175. Turn right an go .5 miles to the entrance of the Stoddard Valley Off Highway Vehicle Area on your right. Upon entering, immediately turn right around the end of the fence back to the front fence (Watch for soft sand). The box is hidden under a pile of rocks at the base of a bush near the front fence about 30 feet south of the entrance. Be careful when retrieving, I got scratched up pretty good by that bush when planting. Please re-hide well.

As always be careful of snakes and other predators in the desert. Please be mindful not to damage any plant life or property. Thank you.
