I have lived in Mt. Kisco for a very long time. As people move in and clean up the woods you start to notice things. Things that you never knew were there, as you were growing up. One of those places is in Mt. Kisco/Bedford Corners. Three roads intercept each other. Sheather, Tripp and Westwood Drive. On the corner of Sheather Road sits a very large boulder. One I never noticed, until recently. The plaque on the large boulder reads: Hungry Jim L. Hunter died May 6, 1902.
When my kids and I noticied it one day we started to wonder who he was. The questions started to flow from the back seat: Who was Hungry Jim Hunter? Why was he so hungry? Why did they make a plaque for him on this very large boulder? Is he buried here? Is he the last of a generation of his people or his family? I started to wonder why haven't I heard the story or the local lore of this man? He was important to someone. They felt the need to mark this special spot. I plan on finding out who he was. If anyone knows about the history of this rock please email me......
STORY TO BE CONTINUED......

To the Letterbox:
Find the three roads, Sheather, Tripp and Westwood Drive. On the left side of the boulder sits Tripp Street. It's green street sign and a stop sign sit across the road. It you stay on that left side and walk down the street, counting the concrete posts that once were a fence. Between the 7th and the 8th post, is a boulder with Hungry Jim's letterbox. It is sitting behind the rock, closer to the 7th post.
Can be a busy spot. Neighbors will notice you, so retrieve and stamp in, in your car. I was asked if I needed help, so use stealth
