Named for its color and the resemblance of its petal to a woman's sunbonnet, the bluebonnet is the state flower of Texas. It blooms in the early Spring and can be readily found in fields and along the roadsides throughout central and south Texas. Washington County is especially blessed with blooms, and Lake Somerville provides a great place to camp while touring the area. There are two units of Lake Somerville State Park and several parks operated by the Army Corps Of Engineers, including Yegua Creek Park, where this letterbox is hidden. Even when the bluebonnets are not blooming, it is still fun to come to this beautiful area of Texas!

Directions:
From Houston, take US 290 West to Brenham, then follow Highway 36 North approximately 14 miles to FM 1948. Turn left and go approximately 2.5 miles. Turn right into Yegua Creek Park, get a map at the entrance station (no fee for just hiking) and park at the Nature Trail head by the playground.

Clues:
Start at the trail head where a sign shows a map of the trail. If you come in early Spring you should see bluebonnets all around the first part of the trail. After about 200 yards you will come to a fork with a bench and sign that shows a map of the loop trail starting at this point. Take the right (west) fork and walk about 30 steps to a sign identifying a Willow Oak on the right. The oak is to the left of the sign and about 5 steps off trail. Look behind its base under some dead branches for the box. Please re-cover well when done.
