**THIS SERIES HAS BEEN OFFICIALLY RETIRED AS OF 10/20/08** 10/20/08**

~Noah's Ark~

~This series of boxes was a labor of love. I had the idea for a series based on Noah's Ark for quite awhile. Then I came up with the idea of asking a few letterboxing friends if they would like to add to it. Well, as good things go, it just got bigger and better!!!

I want to thank all of the contributors of carvings to this series for making it possible. So a huge thank you goes out to the following people.:
RTRW
donutz716
Rubaduc & Gizz
Bookworm
Butterfly
Bluebird
CW Sun Seeker (UT)
Sunshine & Swamp Yankee
CHT Hiker
Jacks (IN)
May Eve
Queen B
Wild Rover
Sojourner
Bibliophile (OH)
Music Woman
Sadie &Russ
Hez & Grumpy
Sweet Pea
and I also need to thank my very patient husband who is not a letterboxer, but helped me to get this project up and running and spent hours planting with me.

Directions:
Make your way to Gulf Road in East Hampton, CT . This is the main road that runs through Salmon River State Forest. This is located on route 16 just after the town line on the left if coming from Colchester and just after the covered bridge on the right if coming from the other direction. Drive to the main parking lot on the right where you will find a picnic area and bathrooms (in season). Park here and begin your journey.

You will want to allow plenty of time for this series as there are A LOT of boxes. Make sure you have something to drink and a snack. You'll be happy later 8-) Also, there are a few boxes with ink, but for the most part, the boxes contain a carving only. Most of the images are solid colors. There are four log books to this series. One at the beginning, one at the end and a couple in the middle.

Clues:
With your back to the water, exit the parking lot and turn right , going uphill. Pass a row of boulders on your left. At the 11th boulder stop. Turn left and walk uphill, passing a tiny cross and in a few steps you will see a two sister Birch tree rather precariously perched. Look in its roots for Noah's Ark #1. (Flutterby)

Go back out to the road and almost immediately on your right you will see a pointy boulder. Go behind it to find Noah and his wife #2. (RTRW)

Continue along the road and soon you will come to a double row of boulders parallel to the road on your left. Go to the spot where there are three dead trees grouped behind a boulder in the farthest row. Look behind these trees to find Wolves #3. (donutz716)

Continue in the same direction until you come to a fork in the road. Go around the gate and take the right fork/yellow trail. Immediately you will see, on your left, a large rock uphill. Look under the downhill facing side for Alligators #4. (RTRW)

Continue downhill on the yellow trail. You will come to a level spot. Start looking on your left for a 8-9 foot tall stump that is about 13 steps off trail. Go to it and continue 9 more steps to a decaying 4' stump. Look inside for Snakes #5. (Rubaduc & Gizz)

Keep going in the same direction keeping an eye out for a trio of stumps on your right. Look at the base of these for Ladybugs #7. (Bookworm)

Continue on the trail through a rather wet and muddy section. Look to your left for a stump up on rocks. Look in the stump for Black Swans #8. (Butterfly)

Go back to the trail and start going uphill. Turn right with the trail . Walk a bit and just after bending right and then left with the trail while going downhill, look to your right for a two sister Hemlock. Look under the long root for Otters #9. (Bluebird)

Continue on, now through Mountain Laurel. You will need to keep a sharp lookout for a flat ~2'x3' rock next to a mossy base evergreen. Look under this rock for Bunnies #10. (CW Sun Seeker of UT)
This box went missing and is now located behind evergreen to the left.

Continue on the trail and come to a wonderfully level spot. Follow the yellow blazes to the right. From the tree with the right turn indicated, walk 20 steps and stop. Look right to see a "Rhino Horn" tree. Go to the right of this tree and look underneath for Rhinos #11. (Sunshine & Swamp Yankee)

Turn around now and go back to Gulf Road (at the gate) and turn right/uphill.

Very quickly you will see a large, mossy rock on your left. Facing this rock from the road, look on its right side in a little indentation for Camels #12. (RTRW)

Continue on the road and soon come to a level spot. There is an Attention Anglers sign on a tree to the right. Walk to this tree and continue beyond it to a skinny Mountain Laurel bush. Turn left and walk 5 steps. Look in the hollow of a woodpecker's delight for Penguins #13. (CHT Hiker)

Continue on, again uphill, to a trail on the left that is marked with two red blazes on a rock. Take this trail, uphill. Turn right with the trail, walk a short distance and again turn right with the trail. This time going downhill. Quickly look for a decaying stump on the left. Stop. Turn left and go 9 steps to a rock. Look on the right side for Elephants #14. (Jacks of IN)

Continue on the red trail going downhill and turning to the left. Pass a large hole on your right and then come to a tree that is "bending over backwards". Look at its base for White Geese #15. (RTRW)

Continue on red as it goes uphill. Just before entering a Hemlock grove, turn left and go to a large Hemlock with a gaping hole in it. There you will find Dogs #16. (Flutterby)

Just 8 steps away, in another gaping hole, you will find Cats #17. (Bookworm)

Go back to the trail and just as you enter the Hemlock grove, look left and see a decaying stump. Look inside and you will find some Rats #18. (RTRW)

Continue on red until you get to a spot where you are passing between two very large rocks. Stop here and go to the one on the left. Look behind the trap door for Sheep #19. (May Eve)

Still walking the red trail, pass by several fallen trees on your left. A few steps beyond them you will see a jumble of rocks on the right. Look behind the big, mossy rock to find Moose #20. (donutz716)

Continue onwards and upwards. Just as you crest the hill at a skinny blazed tree, stop. Look off to your right and see another jumble of rocks that resemble steps. Walk 22 steps to this jumble and look behind the "steps" for Zebras #21. (Queen B)

Go on through lots of skinny trees and mud. You will soon come to a stone wall on the left. Look low in the wall to the left of the large rock for Pigs #22. (Wild Rover)

Keep going downhill until you walk through a stone wall opening. Stop and turn right. Walk 15 steps to a rotting stump. Look behind it in the wall, behind a trap door, for Giraffes #23. (Sojourner)

Continue on downhill with a stone wall on your left. Near the end of the wall, between two clumps of skinny trees, look under a large, flat top rock for Ducks #24. (Flutterby)

The red blazes end here, but you will go a little farther. At the "T", turn left and go a short distance to find a short section of nice stone wall on your right. Just to the left of the multi-tree in front of the stone wall, look low in the wall for Horses # 25. (Bibliophile of OH)

Turn around and head back to Gulf Road on the red trail. Once you are there, turn left.

Walk along the road until you come to a big blow down on the left. Look on the backside for Pandas #26. (Music Woman)

Continue on the road going downhill. You will pass a short row of of mossy rocks on the left. Just after this on the right you will see a large tree with a rock on its left. Go behind this tree to find Raccoons #27. (Sadie & Russ)

Now turn around and head back on Gulf Road towards your car.

Pass by the blow down, now on your right. As you start going uphill notice a funky "stump-tree" on your left. Go behind it to find Mice #28. (Hez & Grumpy)

Continue on the road, passing by the rock with two red blazes on it. From that rock walk 13 steps more and then stop. Look right and see a stump up the hill a short way. Go there to find the final box, Doves #29. (Sweet Pea)

Continue on down the road all the way back to the parking area.

I truly hope that you have enjoyed all of the wonderful letterboxes that were contributed by so many talented and kind people.

Flutterby~
