In the five years since I last checked this one there has been considerable erosion in the area, and although the tree is still there, most of the dirt and rocks around the base have been washed away. I was lucky enough to find the box container with a cracked lid further down the slope. The bags were still sealed tight and the contents dry, though the bright yellow cover of the logbook had faded almost to white, telling me that it had been exposed to the sun for quite some time. Due to the lack of any stable place to replant the box, I've decided to retire it. Kudos to anyone who solved the clue.
