From 1998 to 2002 I worked for Bonnett's Wholesale Florist in Milan, Illinois.

The first route I learned (the "Freeport Route" or "Route 11") took me through Galena, Illinois.

Galena quickly grew to be one of my favorite stopping points, and one of my favorite spots to drive my beautiful wife to for the day.

The last stop I had in Galena before heading towards the town of Elizabeth was in the Galena Territory. I would go and deliver flowers and supplies that would be turned into beautiful arrangements for the tables of the Inn, etc.

One day, after my delivery I came out and backed out of my parking space to find a puddle of something under where my engine was. I jumped out and took a look . . . oil!! Everywhere!

I pulled back into the parking spot and shut off the engine and called "home base." I was told to hold tight and they would come up and get me. Knowing it would be at least 3 hours before they got there to get me, and being an adventurer at heart, I decided to take a walk.

I noticed on the bluff in front of me there was a trail, and a look out platform at the top.

I walked to the top, enjoying the beautiful summer day and God's creation. The sun was out, a nice breeze was blowing and everything was just perfect.

Some time ago I picked up a map of Eagle Ridge Inn & Resort and have had this map ever since. It has all the hiking trails, roads, activities, phone numbers, golf course lay out, etc etc. On the cover page is the title "Eagle Ridge Inn & Resort" and above these words is an Eagle soaring high. This stamp is the image of the eagle.

I was to plant this box at the top of the trail, near the overlook platform I stood on that warm summers day. However, this day wasn't near as warm and there was a good 18" of snow on the ground. With my wife and friends sitting in a nice warm SUV, I climbed up a slope at the base of this trail, I could hear the laughter from the vehicle as I scrambled through the snow.

Next time we are up in Galena, hopefully on a day warmer than this I will re-locate this box to the top of the trail.

For now, here is its location;

Eagle Ridge Drive to Territory Drive. Trail head to your right & park. Behind wooden sign, up slope to a trio of trees . . . two standing tall . . . the third one missing. On the up hill side under some bark.
