This box is now "MISSING" (8/14/10) Fellow letterboxers just reported to me their attempt to find this box and found traces of the container but not the stamp. :-( I'll leave it as "MISSING" for now until I decide if I'll archive this spot or replace the stamp. Thanks for considering this box and have a good time on your letterboxing adventures.

Corvallis is in the Willamette Valley of Oregon, off of Interstate 5. There are two ways to get to the covered bridge. One way is thru the campus of Oregon State University. I'll let you find your way to campus and once you get there locate the roadway "Campus Way". It runs east/west and kinda sorta bisects the campus. Note: Campus Way is not a drivable road unless you are a service or delivery vehicle. However, this is a great bicycle ride but keep the kids close because you will cross some regular busy city streets along the way. So you've parked and are ready for a flat paved walk or ride (maybe 2-3 miles round trip) to the Irish Bend Covered Bridge. Head west on Campus Way and just keep going until you get to the covered bridge.

The alternate route is to park in the south parking lot of the Benton County Fairgrounds which are located on 54th Street west of campus and on the west side of the city. From the parking lot, there is a bike/pedestrian crossing leading to a paved path that will take you directly to the covered bridge.

To the Letterbox: Go to the end of the guardrail on the left as you exit the west end of the bridge. Look to your left and you can just see a faint trail disappearing into the woods. To the right of the trail, just where it enters the woods is a large moss covered tree. (Don't ask me what kind of tree. I nearly flunked dendrology and that was 20+ years ago!) Anyway, on the back side of that tree under a couple of rocks and leaves and stuff is the Irish Bend Covered Bridge Letterbox.

This is a popular exercise route so be mindful when finding and rehiding this box.
