[Dec. 2010: After receiving an "attempt" notice on this box, I stopped by the library. Much to the librarian's surprise, we couldn't find the box. The biography section had been relocated, but she said that it had moved with the books at the time. They are keeping an eye out for it, and hopefully it will reappear.]

[August 22, 2011--I just heard from the librarian--the box has been found!!! She reports that it is back in place. Just in time for the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts :-) ]

This stamp, my first, was created in honor of my little sister, who is currently attending college in Savannah, Georgia, the birthplace of Juliette Gordon Low, aka Daisy Low, the founder of Girl Scouts. My daughter and I planted the box in honor of our Junior Girl Scout troop.

It is located at the Deep River Public Library (http://www.deepriverct.com/library) 150 Main St., Deep River, CT. For directions and hours, call (860) 526-6039 or visit the library website. The box was placed with the permission of the head librarian, but I don’t believe that most of the staff are aware of it. Please be respectful of the library and its occupants.

If you park in the parking lot, enter the back door and come upstairs (it is handicapped-accessible through this entrance). If you park in front, come in the front door. Pass the front desk and turn right. You will be facing a row of bookshelves. Look towards the middle for the aisle marked “Biography”. In the Biography section, look for an aqua-colored “book” entitled “Girl Scout Beginnings” with a white label “B LOW”. That is the letterbox! It has its own inkpad.

I carved the stamp out of Speedy Cut, which I have heard mixed reviews about. Please let me know if it doesn’t seem to be holding up! I hope you like it :-)

Happy 2008!
