From Tamiami Trail (US 41), turn West on Bonita Beach Road. Continue on Beach Road until it turns north along the beach. The road will turn north and narrow to two lanes at Doc's Beach House. Continue on Bonita Beach Road and turn left on Hickory Blvd just before the bridge. Turn left on Hickory Blvd and then take a quick right on Hickory Blvd. Pull left into Little Hickory Island Beach Park and park in the lot.

This beach is a popular nesting place for sea turles in the summer. Stop at the shelter and read about the sea turtles.

Continue down the steps to the beach. Walk toward the water and then walk north.

When you get to the rock wall breaker look for the sidewalk to the right. Continue on the sidewalk. Pass the tennis courts on the right. Follow the sidewalk until it ends. Watch for gopher tortoises along the path. The sidewalk will end and a sand trail will continue. Continue on the sand trail until you see a Strong Current sign. The trail will end at the sign and you will be on a beach at the end of Hickory Island. The Shell tree will be ahead in the direction of the water tower. Take 45 steps and you will be there. The Letterbox will be at the base of the shell tree. Look for a digging shell. Don't forget to "decorate" the tree during your visit. Enjoy the view!
