Drive to Reservoir Park located off Central Drive (Hwy NC 22) in Southern Pines, NC
From parking lot walk to the trail to the left (reservoir on your right) past the park office building/restrooms. Just past the split rail fence where the path forks, bear left past the covered picnic areas.
Continue along path approx. ½ mile. Be on the lookout for a bench dedicated “in loving memory” to Michelle Sullivan Pliska, which is located on the left side of the path across from a short trail spur to a dock on the water.
Sit on the bench and look to your left and you’ll see a single tree in the middle of the path. Beyond this tree you’ll see an 8’ stump of a burned tree.
Look inside the stump under the debris of pine needles and bark for the box. Head back to the bench to relax while you stamp and record your find. Return the box to its hidden spot and cover carefully with the debris for the next discovery.
