Pam’s Path

Letterboxes dedicated to my hiking buddy, Pam (Music Woman), in honor of her upcoming wedding. These are relocated from her letterboxing shower event, held in October, 2007. Each stamp depicts something that Pam loves. Congratulations, Pam!

Located in Timberland, a lovely preserve in Guilford, CT. From Route 77 in Guilford, (Exit 58 off of I-95), take Stepstone Hill Road. It passes an elementary school and a golf course. Just after the golf course, take a left on Lakeside and follow it to the end. Park by the boulders in front of the water, and see a brown Timberland Trails sign to your left, and an opening for the white trail (white, for the wedding!)

This hike is about one mile loop and should take about an hour. It’s kid and dog friendly (and very pretty). There is now just one logbook, in the last box.

Take down the well-blazed white trail. At the first intersection (with the white X trail), see a large flat boulder with a big split in front of you and look behind it, under logs for Pam Loves Cheese. 8/08 I covered it with a large piece of bark.

Continue on the white trail and soon see cliffs to your left. First there is a smaller set, then some larger ones. Walk to the first part of the large set and look in a “cave” at the bottom for Pam Loves Her Laptop.

You will enter a section of laurel, and then spot a row of boulders on your right. Look under the largest one for Pam Loves Her Kitty. (missing! sorry!)

Next, go up and to the left, on white. You will take the next White X trail (a right) soon, and be on it a very short distance, rejoining the regular white trail, going LEFT. Soon you will step over a log on the trail and look for a rock on your right (rock, not a ledge) which has a tree growing on its corner. Look in the crevice behind the tree for Pam Loves to Take Pictures.

Continue on the trail, and downhill, passing a Red X trail. There will be some high territory to your right and you will soon be following a stream. Pass a Blue X trail and little bridge on your right. Follow white almost to the red house, then it’s left and uphill you go. Make sure you are on white, not the shortcut. When you reach the top (short hill!) you will see a mossy rock on your left; look to its right for Pam Loves Wine.

After a large rock on the left which almost juts out into the trail, look for a lichen-covered rock on the left. Behind it is Pam Loves to Hike.

At the next intersection, go right on the White X trail. Soon, see a triangular rock on your right which is kind of orange on its flat side. Behind it lies Pam Loves Italy.

Not too far along, look behind the big boulder on the right for Pam Loves to Play (clarinet).

Soon you will rejoin the White trail. Turn right. At the first “pile” of rocks on your right after that (a little jumble of them), look for something that Pam really likes between the split in the back of a rock there!

You can almost see your car from here, and have completed the loop!
