Fergus Falls' Delagoon Park, about a mile south from the intersection of Hwy 210 and Pebble Lake Road, has 192 acres of space for camping, picnics, baseball fields, and serves as a trailhead for the Central Lakes Trail. This treasure, built on an old railroad bed, leads 55 miles southeastward from Fergus Falls to Osakis and hooks up with the Lake Wobegon Trail, making it possible to hike, bike, or rollerblade all the way to St. Joseph.

Begin your search by parking at the Central Lakes Trailhead in Delagoon Park--just follow the green signs to the northeast corner of the park. Then, pull on your boots, skates, or climb on your bike and follow the signs 0.2 of a mile to where you enter the Central Lakes Trail.

Head out toward Dalton and Ashby. Keep on going past the first large curve to the right. Just past the second slough on the left, the one with the fence crossing it, you'll notice all the tree stumps in Pebble Lake on your right. Keep going until you come to a place where the blacktop widens on both sides, as if it were an intersection.

Oops. You've gone a bit too far, but you needed to get to this spot. From the center of the "intersection", go back 27 steps to where you'll find a huge boulder just off the trail on your left, now. See the dead tree at the base of the boulder? Under the roots clump, you'll find what you're searching for.

Please be sure to replace the box carefully, covering it again with debris.
