Watchful

Directions:

From I 91 S take Exit 20. At the end of the exit turn left and left again at the stop sign onto Country Club Road. At Moody School on the left, take a right onto Higby Road. The John Tynan Park is on the right. From I 91 N, take Exit 20 and turn right onto Country Club Road. Take a right onto Higby Road at Moody School (on left) and then take a right when you reach the park. From Route 66 E or W, turn onto Higby Road at the Red Dog Saloon. The park will be on your left.

Clues:

Watchful is a little kitty who has become very disturbed regarding the amount of barking on the blue trail below her. She’s not quite sure if she needs to call in for feline backup. She heard that one park not too far away is so full of dogs that the cats are all up in trees.

Anyway, to find her, you will have to follow red/blue and then blue all the way up to what seems like the end of the trail at the edge of the mountain. This part of the trail is “priceless.” At this point you will turn right and follow the unmarked ridge trail onto what was once the “old” Blue Trail leading to water company property. You will soon notice a hillock on you right. As you are about to step over a fallen tree blocking the path, look right at ~50* to a young, multi-trunked hickory. Climb up the hillock past the hickory trees to find a many rooted downed tree before you. Watchful is hiding there, keeping guard on her mountain top.

Additional Info:

If you “spot” cars at Tynan and Guida’s on Route 66, you can enjoy a very fulfilling boxing day. A domestic dispute and a challenger are not too far away. Many more boxes are waiting for you on the decent to Route 66 (there will be some “ups”), but be mindful! That part of the trail crosses dangerous ledges. This entire area is also Copperhead territory.
