The "Father Of Texas" is Stephen F. Austin because in 1821 he settled the first Anglo-American families in Texas. A park is located where he brought the first 300 families to colonize Texas under a contract with the Mexican Government. It includes the San Felipe State Historic Site, which has a large statue of Austin, as well as a replica of his only home in Texas, an original well dug by his colony, and the J.J. Josey General Store. The park area provides camping, hiking, swimming, picnic tables with a playground and even golf. It is also part of the Katy Prairie Loop described on the Upper Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail map. You can see a variety of woodland birds and a view of the Brazos river. The park entry fee for adults is $3.00, but well worth the price to enjoy nature and history.

Directions:
The park may be reached by traveling west from Houston on Interstate 10 about 50 miles (just before Sealy). Turn right (north) at exit #723 on FM 1458 and go about 3 miles. Turn left on Park Road 38 for access to the park. Pay fee and get map at entrance and drive to trail head for Cottonwood trail near trailer camping area and amphitheater.

Clues:
Walk to the amphitheater and go behind the stage. Walk NW at 300 for 17 steps to a 6 foot rotten stump. The camo letterbox is within the top on the back side under some bark. Please re-cover well.
