Pack 1 Chepachet Cub Scouts have been in the woods again and placed their second letterbox.
Enjoy the X-C trail at Ponaganset High School. Trip is about 2 miles in length.
Ponaganset High School is located on Anan Wade Rd off Rte 101 in Glocester. Park at the back of the school and locate the tennis courts. Find the sign that marks the entrance of the Ponaganset Covered Bridge trail and begin here. Pass through the covered bridge and continue on the trail, with the fields on your left. Take your first right and go up the hill. You are on the right path if you spot the rock grouping with a worn Indian chief on your left.
Continue on this trail until you come to a four-way intersection. A wooden bench will be to your right. Follow the trail to the right (a green arrow marks the way). Soon you will come to a giant rock on your left with a tree growing sideways on the top. Look closely for Indian symbols painted on the rock. Go around the right side of the rock to the back and you will find the box in a crevice hidden behind small rocks. You can retrace your steps here or continue about another mile on the trail. A small stream with footbridge and other interesting sights await you. Drop us a line to let us know how the box is doing. We hope you enjoyed our neck of the woods!
