Happy Halloween!
The location of this box is in a park that was once a very popular place to throw horseshoes. In 1928, the city recreation department installed lighted horseshoe courts and 18 local companies fielded teams.
NFL Hall of Famer and Evansville native Bob Griese claims to have first learned the game of football here.
In 1944, the Board of Trustees gave the Evansville School Corporation permission to use the park for recreational purposes. Many schools capitalized on the offer.
Legend has it that the "grooves in the stone" of the balustrades on the front steps have been "...worn by generations of youngsters (and countless seats of pants) as they used the inclined stone as a slide."
Esther Korff Caze will guild you to this burried Halloween Treat! Thirty steps west from the flagpole placed in her memory will bring you to this tree, and there you'll need to dig a little to find the box. >remember, to rehide better than you find<
