Grandpa's Pumpkin Place by Limekiln Loons

This is Grandpa's last year growing pumpkins, squash, gourds, & Christmas Trees at his farm, & this box is a tribute to his years of growing the biggest & best pumpkins for miles around.

After many years of careful breeding, hand pollinating & around-the-clock care & feeding, Gramps finally achieved his goal of a 1000+ lb. pumpkin grown at this farm.

In September of 1998, he picked a 1056.5 lb. Atlantic Giant, the heaviest pumpkin in New York State that year. Previous years, 1988 forward, Gramps was in the Guinness Book of World Records for the heaviest vegetables ever grown, his record weight Giant Squash(s).

This box is located on the farm immediately adjacent to the corner farm stand clearing. The views of the Keshequa Valley from this plot, high above the east banks of the Genesee River at Letchworth, are spectacular in all seasons.

To find the box, take Rt. 408 South out of Mount Morris, NY
9.2 miles to Wildey Road & turn right, and take it to the end at the intersection of Short Tract Road. The southeast corner clearing(8701 Short Tract Rd, 14517 if you use Google Maps or Yahoo Maps) is the farm plot.

From the south, take Rt. 408 North out of Nunda about two miles, turn left on Wildey Road(just past the two golf courses on your right & left) and take it to the end at the intersection of Short Tract Road.

Pull over anywhere off the road - there is plenty of room on the shoulders to get entirely off of the road.

Keeping on the east side of Short Tract Rd., start at the intersection/corner and walk south along the shoulder 45 big paces or 51 smaller paces until you reach a 6 foot high tree stump just into the hedgerow. Reaching through the wire fence(it's not barbed wire) at the left side base of the stump, is the box covered with leaves & sticks.

Enjoy the views, visit Letchworth State Park, or in season(maple sugaring season) visit the nearby Maple Tree Inn in Hunt, NY for all-you-can-eat buckwheat pancakes w/ real maple syrup while you are out in this beautiful country.

There are a few other letterboxes in the area too.
