Lady Red Hat

I’m a Red Hatter and proud of it. Any woman over 50 can take life by the horns and join the frivolity.

"The Red Hat Society began as a result of a few women deciding to greet middle age with verve, humor and spontaneity. We believe silliness is the comedy relief of life, and since we are all in it together, we might as well join red-gloved hands and go for the gusto together. Underneath the frivolity, we share a bond of affection, forged by common life experiences and a genuine enthusiasm for wherever life takes us next.” This is where I leave my mark!

Here in the small laid back community of Mt. Carroll, you will find peace and quiet laced with humor, memories, history, beauty, new spirit, and lots of quaint little shops designed to tickle your senses. In the midst of all this is the Carroll County Courthouse with it’s attractions, the fountain, the cannon, the Civil War Memorial and Annex, the many “In Memory Of” benches, the Sheriff’s office and Jail, bandstand where music concerts can be heard in the summertime accompanied by old fashioned ice cream socials, beautiful gardens, and the latest tribute to our great protectors. Market & Main Streets yield 19th century buildings, each building with it’s own unique style and beauty. Here too, are a couple of eating establishments, a couple of drinking establishments, a few antique stores, a pharmacy, a couple of floral shops, a tea room, a stained glass shop, and dabluz boutique. Just off Market Street on Carroll, you can spend a couple hours at our year round Haunted House.

A self-guided map of the historic district describes buildings of architectural significance. On the list is the 1886 Hotel Glen View, which closed in 1976 and now is home to dabluz boutique.

Now would be a prudent time to announce that dabluz boutique is open Tuesday - Saturday from 10 to 5 and Sunday from noon to 4. The proprietor needs a day off too! To find Lady Red Hat Letterbox, you must first find the Purple Room which is located inside the Hotel Glen View. You may ask where the purple room is, but please do not ask where the letterbox is located. I have asked the owner not to reveal its "hiding place". Enter the Purple Room and scan for the Lady Red Hat. This is a hand carved stamp accompanied by a handmade logbook in a hand crafted letterbox. Crafters enjoy!
You may rehide in the same place or choose to hide in another spot, as long as the box remains in the Purple Room. For more information about dabluz boutique, call 815-244-4058.
The proprietors of dabluz boutique are very friendly and would love to talk while you stamp the logbooks. A Red inkpad is supplied. Please stamp and return the Lady Red Hat Letterbox to the Purple Room.

Enjoy the rest of a very relaxed day. Don’t forget to stop at the DQ for an ice cream.
