This is our first placed letterbox. We are from NH originally, but spend the summers in NH and live the rest of the year in Florida. We made a trip to NH to see the foliage and left this box...we look forward to seeing who visited when we get back in June!

This letterbox is in the town forest in Salem, NH. Drive east on Rte. 111 from the Rte.28/Rte.111 intersection (there is a Hess gas station at the intersection.

You will pass the Elks club on your left, and a short distance later, on your right, you will see the sign for the entrance to the town forest.

Turn right into the town forest parking lot and park your car in the small lot. The trailhead starts from the parking lot and is clearly marked with a sign. Enter the trail and go over a wooden bridge. Continue on the trail, staying right until you get to a large clearing. At the clearing, there is another sign marking all of the trails and a 3 way fork. Stay left at the fork and make an immediate left onto trail "B"...there will be a green trail marker. Follow the trail up the hill. When you get to a fork, stay left on trail "B"...you will know you have made the right choice if you see trees marked with orange "B's". Continue on this trail passing large piles of rocks on your left and your right...ahead you should see a low rock wall.

Pass through the opening in the rock wall and turn left off the path, following the wall to its end a short distance into the woods. At the end of the wall, look to your right. You will see a tree that splits into three distinct trunks (if there is deep snow on the ground, it may not be immediately obvious as where the trunk splits might be under snow...but you should still be able to figure it out). Walk to this tree.

When you get to the tree, look to your right. There will be several large boulders. Walk behind the largest of these boulders. There will be a "V" formed by the large boulder and another boulder that meets it in the back. The letterbox is hidden under smaller rocks to the right of this "V".

There is a stamp, ink pad and pen...although in the winter, these will be frozen and you may want to bring your own. The winter is a great time to hike this trail as there is a lot of wildlife, including deer, rabbits, etc.

Please put everything back as you found it and let us know what you think!
