Directions: Between Seaside and Gearhart on the Necanicum estuary. From the south drive all the way through Seaside until you cross the small bridge for the Neawanna Creek. Look on your left, just pass the drive-thru espresso place, for a gravel parking area and an interpretive sign.
From the north drive through Gearhart and look for a Sons of Norway baseball field, the gravel parking area is just past on the right.

THIS LAND IS OWNED BY THE CITY OF SEASIDE AND A LOCAL LAND CONSERVANCY. IT IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC BUT PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL OF ITS ENVIRONMENTALLY SENSITIVE CONDITION. THERE A A NATURE CENTER RUN BY THE LAND TRUST JUST BEYOND, BE SURE AND VISIT.

Update: we have not been able to check on this box since the big storm. The site might look different, with more fallen trees etc...
june 2008: box has been found in its hiding place but it's been reported the deer trail is crossed by limbs and small trees.

CLUES: walk forward from the parking area to view the estuary. You'll see a bark trail leading to your right. Follow it into the trees and look for the reptile in stone. Over your right shoulder you'll see the trail continues into the forest. Walk down the path until it ends in a clearing. Seek the inquiring balladeer. While you stand next to her listen to the roar of the surf, smell the tidal flats just beyond and view the gnarled pines all around.
Return down the path you came for about 55 paces. Look right, 195 degrees you'll see a large fir on its own down a short deer trail off the main path. The box is hidden well in its northern big toe, past the second knuckle and buried under duff and bark pieces. Careful not to step on it! and cover again with fallen limbs so no one does the same.
